MICHAEL BROUILLET

My paintings focus on urban life in and around Vancouver and the North Shore of British Columbia. I walk through neighbourhoods and observe their unique surroundings with photos that are used as reference for my paintings. Most scenes include a moment in time, bright colours and shapes of these unique locations people visit in these neighbourhoods. Some paintings show scenes of disrepair in neighbourhoods that reflect better times gone by. Other scenes show people sitting outside cafes or locals going about their everyday activities, there is always some essence of urban life in the scene. In this series many unique hangouts are featured. Restaurants and local coffee houses are the backdrop and are usually housed in unique or vintage buildings, often have unique signs, graffiti or murals.
